Bruce Campbell retires from playing Ash Williams in Evil Dead

Actor Bruce Campbell has officially announced that he is finished playing the iconic horror character Ash Williams. In recent interviews, Campbell stated, “Ash is done,” confirming that his retirement from the role extends beyond live-action performances to include all future voice work for animated projects.

This decision effectively closes the door on previously discussed animated continuations of the franchise, such as an animated version of “Ash vs Evil Dead.” Campbell suggested that if filmmakers choose to continue the character, they should utilize a voice actor or modern voice-recreation technology.

Regarding the direction of the “Evil Dead” franchise, Campbell expressed concerns that recent installments have become too dark and have lost the humor central to the original era. While he remains involved as an executive producer on upcoming projects like “Evil Dead Wrath,” he has prioritized his own creative ventures, such as his new film “Ernie & Emma,” over active participation in the series.
