Bruce Darnell discusses childhood trauma and mother's death
Model Bruce Darnell has spoken openly about his difficult childhood and the complex relationship he had with his mother. In an interview with RTL, the 69-year-old revealed that his mother’s death brought him a sense of freedom alongside grief, noting that he had not spoken to her since he was 19 years old.
Darnell described growing up as an illegitimate child where he often felt “invisible” and lacked parental attention. He shared a memory of waiting for his mother in extreme heat, only for her not to arrive. He eventually left home at age 18 and did not see her again until receiving news of her passing.
The model also discussed his long-standing struggle with self-doubt, specifically the recurring belief that he was “not good enough.” He stated that he only began to practice self-love at the age of 68, attributing his current well-being to a positive mindset and personal growth.
