Bruce Dickinson performs offstage due to flare smoke in Ecuador

Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson was forced to sing from an offstage position during a concert at Estadio Atahualpa in Quito, Ecuador, after smoke from a fan-lit flare overwhelmed the stage. During the performance of “The Trooper,” Dickinson retreated backstage to avoid the fumes, leaving the audience to sing the opening verse before he resumed singing from out of view.

Once the smoke cleared, Dickinson returned to the stage carrying the Ecuadorian flag. The singer, a throat cancer survivor, addressed the crowd regarding the incident, stating that the smoke made it impossible for him to breathe or sing. He criticized the use of flares, describing the fumes as poisonous and harmful to those around them.

This incident follows previous instances where Dickinson has confronted concertgoers regarding smoke and vape fumes, noting the difficulty they pose to his vocal performance.
