Bruce Precinct Master Plan proposes two scenarios for Canberra redevelopment

The Australian Government has released the Bruce Precinct Master Plan, a blueprint for the redevelopment of the Bruce area in Canberra into a mixed-use urban precinct. Supported by a $9.98 million federal commitment, the plan is a collaborative effort involving the ACT Government, the Australian Sports Commission, and the National Capital Authority.

The plan outlines two primary scenarios for the future of Canberra Stadium. The first option involves relocating the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) campus to allow for the construction of a new, centrally located stadium near planned rapid public transport routes. The second option proposes retaining the stadium in its current location as part of a renewed entertainment precinct connected by an east-west rapid transport spine.

Beyond the stadium, the redevelopment aims to integrate the Australian Institute of Sport, North Canberra Hospital, and the CIT Bruce campus. The project is projected to accommodate between 4,000 and 5,800 dwellings, alongside 30,000 to 43,000 square metres of commercial, retail, innovation, and institutional space. While the plan provides a framework for development, it does not yet establish a specific construction timetable or final capital costs.
