Brueghel dynasty exhibitions held in Milan

Milan is hosting significant exhibitions focused on the Brueghel dynasty, exploring the evolution of European painting genres.

At Palazzo Reale, the exhibition ‘I Brueghel. Le origini dei generi pittorici in Europa’ runs from September 29, 2026, to January 31, 2027. It features over 80 works, including paintings, drawings, and prints by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Pieter Brueghel the Younger, and Jan Brueghel the Elder. The collection highlights how the family transformed everyday life, landscapes, and still lifes into recognized artistic genres.

Simultaneously, Brun Fine Art and De Jonckheere are presenting ‘Brueghel. Lo spirito del collezionismo’ at via Gesù 17, running until December 19. This exhibition adopts a ‘Wunderkammer’ approach, pairing Flemish paintings with sculptures and decorative arts to create a dialogue between different media and symbolic themes, reflecting the collecting spirit of the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
