Brugherio denies institutional patronage to Brianza Pride
The municipality of Brugherio has decided not to grant institutional patronage to the Brianza Pride LGBTQIA+ event. This decision means the local government will not associate its name or logo with the manifestation, though the event is still permitted to take place provided it follows all necessary security and public order regulations.
The refusal is based on the organizers' “political and programmatic manifesto.” While the municipal council acknowledged that the document contains shared social and civil themes, it also includes specific political, legislative, and administrative positions on which there is no unanimous consensus.
Mayor Roberto Assia clarified that the manifesto includes stances on topics such as surrogacy laws, the use of triptorelin in adolescent transition processes, and opposition to the Pedemontana infrastructure project. Assia stated that while organizers have the right to support these positions, the municipality cannot adopt them as institutional stances, noting that patronage represents an endorsement of an initiative in its entirety rather than a selective agreement with individual points.
