Brunei Sultan strips daughter-in-law of royal titles

The Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, has stripped his daughter-in-law, Pengiran Raabi'atul Adawiyyah, of all royal titles and honors. The decision was announced via a royal decree following conduct deemed “inappropriate” for a member of the royal family.

According to an official statement from the Office of the Grand Chamberlain, the 33-year-old wife of Prince Abdul Malik acted in a manner that “tarnished the good name of the monarchy” and demonstrated a “lack of respect” toward the Sultan. While the palace confirmed the revocation of her status, specific details regarding the exact nature of the behavior or the incident that prompted the decree have not been disclosed.

Prince Abdul Malik is the Sultan's second son and currently fourth in the line of succession to the throne. The couple married in 2015 in a high-profile, ten-day celebration. Despite the removal of her titles, the royal status of their four daughters remains unaffected by the Sultan's decision.
