Bruno Alves joins Portugal national team technical staff

Former Portuguese international Bruno Alves is joining the technical structure of the Portuguese national football team. The 44-year-old former central defender will work closely with head coach Jorge Jesus, who recently succeeded Roberto Martínez.

Alves leaves his position as technical director at Rio Ave FC to take on this new role within the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF). While his specific official title has not been formally announced, he is expected to collaborate closely with Jesus and FPF Executive Director Lourenço Coelho.

A veteran of the national team, Alves earned 129 total caps, including 96 appearances for the senior squad, and was a member of the Euro 2016 championship-winning team. His return to the national setup aims to reinforce the presence of former internationals within the coaching and technical staff.
