Bruno Dantas to retire early from Brazil's TCU
Minister Bruno Dantas has informed the president of the Tribunal de Contas da União (TCU), Vital do Rêgo, of his decision to retire early from the court. Although eligible to serve until 2053, Dantas, 48, is expected to transition to the private sector and is reportedly in discussions with several companies, including a law firm and the defense industry company Avibras.
Dantas's departure is expected to trigger political maneuvering within the National Congress. Because the vacancy will be filled by a Senate appointment, lawmakers are organizing to nominate former Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco. Pacheco, who has announced he will not seek reelection to the Senate, currently holds the support of Senate President Davi Alcolumbre. While Pacheco had previously been considered for a seat on the Supreme Federal Court (STF), the vacancy at the TCU presents a new potential career path for the lawyer.
