Bruno Dumont releases ‘Les Roches rouges’ set on the Côte d’Azur
Director Bruno Dumont has released his new film, ‘Les Roches rouges’, set on the Côte d’Azur. Moving away from his native North of France, the film utilizes the topography of Anthéor, located between Saint-Raphaël and Cannes, to create a landscape that functions as a character in itself.
The story follows a group of children, led by the character Géo, as they navigate the scarlet cliffs and Mediterranean coves of the Estérel region. The narrative focuses on the freedom of childhood, depicting children engaging in dangerous and forbidden games, such as jumping from heights into the sea, largely away from the supervision of adults.
Cinematographer Carlos Alfonso Corral uses a variety of shots, including high and low angles, to contrast the small scale of the children against the vastness of the landscape. The film is described as an audacious and luminous work that explores the end of early childhood.
