Bruno Gagliasso discusses impact of ADHD on acting
Brazilian actor Bruno Gagliasso has shared how his diagnoses of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and dyslexia influence his professional acting process. During a press conference in Brasília, the 44-year-old actor explained that he struggles to memorize scripts verbatim.
Instead of rote memorization, Gagliasso utilizes a method focused on understanding character motivations and emotional conflicts to deliver his performances. He stated, “I really cannot memorize text. I believe any speech or text without soul is useless, so I use this to my advantage.” He noted that this approach helps him create more natural and dynamic interpretations.
Medical expert Dr. Tales Vilela explained that ADHD can impact memorization not necessarily through poor memory, but by affecting the attention required to register and store information. Vilela noted that for actors, difficulties become more evident when dealing with large volumes of text or repetitive tasks, but performance can improve when the individual establishes emotional connections and understands the context of the scene.
