Olympique de Marseille faces internal crisis amid poor results

Olympique de Marseille is facing a severe sporting and internal crisis following a string of five consecutive losses, including a 2-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. The club currently sits in 17th place in Ligue 1.

Coach Bruno Genesio has expressed significant frustration regarding the club's economic constraints and lack of new signings. Former goalkeeper Pascal Olmeta has accused owner Frank McCourt of “betraying” Genesio by failing to honor promises to retain key players and provide new recruits during the summer transfer window. Instead, the club sold several core players to manage the wage bill.

Internal tensions are exacerbated by Genesio's high salary, reported to be approximately 400,000 euros per month, which has drawn criticism from supporters. Despite calls for his resignation from some commentators, Genesio has stated he has no intention of stepping down. However, dismissing him could be financially difficult for the club, as his contract runs until June 2028 and his departure could cost millions in severance.

On a more positive note, the club has seen some progress with the return of players Igor Paixão and Tochukwu Nnadi to training during the international break.
