Bruno Guimaraes joins Arsenal from Newcastle United

Arsenal has confirmed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United for a reported £75 million. The 28-year-old has signed a four-year contract with an option for an additional 12 months. During his tenure at Newcastle, Guimaraes was a prominent figure in the Premier League, recording 14 goal involvements (nine goals and five assists) during the 2025-26 season.

Former Newcastle midfielder Didi Hamann expressed skepticism regarding the move, suggesting that while Guimaraes was a reliable leader for Newcastle, he has yet to prove he is a “first-class” or world-class player.

The transfer also provides a financial boost to Olympique Lyonnais. Due to a 20% sell-on clause on capital gains negotiated during his 2022 move to Newcastle, Lyon is expected to receive approximately €7.4 million from the transaction, aiding the club's ongoing financial restructuring.
