Bruno Guimarães addresses missed penalty after Brazil's World Cup exit
Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimarães has addressed his missed penalty during the 2026 World Cup round of 16 match against Norway, which resulted in a 2-1 defeat and Brazil's elimination from the tournament. Speaking at a press conference in Brisbane, the Arsenal player expressed that while the error is a “wound” and a “scar” that still hurts, he would be willing to take the penalty “a thousand times again” because of what the national jersey represents.
Guimarães also defended teammate Vinicius Junior against criticism regarding the penalty choice, clarifying that he was the designated taker. Coach Carlo Ancelotti noted that the decision was based on player statistics, with potential takers including Neymar, Raphinha, Guimarães, and Gabriel Martinelli.
The Brazilian squad is currently preparing for upcoming friendly matches against Australia in Townsville and Brisbane, followed by a match against India in Kolkata.
