Bruno Guimarães faces competition for starting role at Arsenal

Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães is facing a period of adjustment following his summer transfer from Newcastle United to Arsenal. The 28-year-old joined the London club in a deal valued at approximately €87 million (£75 million), signing a four-year contract.

While Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has praised the midfielder as a ‘warrior’ capable of taking the team to the next level, Guimarães has had a subdued start to his tenure. He has started only one of Arsenal’s first five Premier League fixtures, including a match where he was substituted during a defeat to Brighton.

Former Newcastle winger Chris Waddle has warned that Guimarães may find it difficult to secure a consistent starting role due to the high level of competition at Arsenal. Conversely, former teammate Jamaal Lascelles praised the midfielder, stating he is ‘the perfect person’ to help Arsenal compete for consecutive titles due to his winning mentality and leadership experience at Newcastle.
