Bruno Jasieński honored at literary festival in Sandomierz
The work and life of poet and writer Bruno Jasieński were honored during the III Intergenerational Literary Festival in Sandomierz. A scientific conference held at the Castle Museum featured scholars discussing the legacy of the writer, who was a co-founder of Polish futurism and a representative of the interwar avant-garde.
Professor Krzysztof Jaworski noted that Jasieński’s rebellious futurist period remains particularly engaging for young readers, highlighting works such as ‘But w butonierce’ and ‘Słowo o Jakubie Szeli’. While acknowledging his controversial political history, speakers emphasized the importance of viewing him as a complex human figure. Director Małgorzata Szyszka added that Jasieński’s futurist poems and the drama ‘Bal manekinów’ are experiencing a renaissance, as his visions of political mechanisms feel increasingly relevant today. The event coincided with the 125th anniversary of the birth of the poet, who was originally from Klimontów.
