Bruno Santamaría presents autobiographical film at Morelia Film Festival
Director Bruno Santamaría has presented his first fiction feature, ‘Seis Meses en el Edificio Rosa con Azul’ (2026), at the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). The film is a semi-autobiographical work set in Mexico City during the mid-1990s.
The narrative follows 11-year-old Bruno as he navigates his first love for his best friend, Vladimir, while simultaneously processing his father’s HIV diagnosis. To reconstruct the story, Santamaría utilized family interviews, photographs, and videos, ultimately blending factual memories with imagined scenes to bridge gaps in his recollection.
Santamaría noted that the creative process involved using imagination to connect fragmented memories and emotions. The film also explores themes of masculinity, the stigma surrounding HIV, and the complexities of family dynamics during a period of significant social prejudice.
