The human‑caused Brunswick Creek wildfire, first reported on July 2 north of Boston Bar, British Columbia, expanded from about 100 ha to 1,230 ha by July 5, and is classified as a Wildfire of Note and “out of control.”

Multiple evacuation orders and alerts were issued for properties in Electoral Area A, North Bend, Chaumox Road and the Boothroyd Indian Band, while the community of Boston Bar remains under evacuation alert. A temporary fire camp was set up at Boston Bar Elementary Secondary School to support crews. The response includes the Boston Bar Fire Department, three BC Wildfire Service initial attack crews, two unit crews, two response officers, night‑vision‑equipped helicopters, and heavy equipment. Smoke from the blaze drifted over Okanagan Lake, Kamloops, Merritt and the surrounding region, though Highway 1 stayed open. The fire’s rapid growth was driven by strong winds of 40‑50 km/h, which also sparked several spot fires.

District superintendent Dr. Balan Moorthy wrote, “Our thoughts are with the Boston Bar community… we recognize how stressful and uncertain this time is,” emphasizing the collaborative effort of local leaders and emergency personnel.
