Brussels Airport faces flight cancellations due to ground handler strike

A nationwide strike in Belgium is expected to cause significant disruptions at Brussels Airport on Friday, 9 October. Ground handling company Alyzia is participating in the industrial action, which is part of broader union protests against federal government measures.

Approximately 140 flights are expected to be cancelled due to the strike. Brussels Airlines is among the most impacted carriers, with roughly 40% of its scheduled flights affected and an estimated 30,000 passengers facing disruptions. The airline noted that this marks the third time this year its schedule has been seriously disrupted by external industrial action.

Brussels Airport stated that while Alyzia will operate with limited staffing, about half of the flights handled by the company are still expected to proceed as planned. Other ground handler Aviapartner is not expected to be affected. Passengers with cancelled flights will be contacted by their respective airlines regarding alternative travel options or refunds.
