Brussels back-to-school allowance paid to over 300,000 children

The Brussels-Capital Region will distribute its annual back‑to‑school allowance to more than 300,000 children in August, with total disbursements exceeding €16 million. The payment is added automatically to families' existing child‑benefit allocations, requiring no application.

Amounts depend on the child’s age: €25.36 for ages 0‑2, €38.05 for ages 6‑11, €63.41 for ages 12‑17, and €101.46 for those aged 18‑24 who are pursuing higher‑education studies. Similar schemes exist elsewhere in Europe, such as France’s €430 allowance, but not in Germany, Spain or Italy.
