Brussels begins construction on €52 million Heysel Sports Park
The City of Brussels has commenced construction on a new €52 million Sports Park at the Heysel plateau. This development is a key component of the Neo project, an initiative designed to transform the area into a mixed-use district featuring economic, tourist, leisure, and housing infrastructure.
The 21-hectare complex, located near the King Baudouin Stadium, will include a 400-meter athletics track, a hybrid rugby and football pitch, hockey pitches, and various multi-sport facilities. The project also incorporates green spaces, a reflecting pool, and the preservation of the existing Planetarium. Additionally, the Tricot building will be expanded to accommodate a cafeteria, operational spaces, and the headquarters of the Belgian Olympic Committee.
Funded in part by a €50.6 million loan from the Brussels-Capital Region, the park aims to support Brussels’ bid to host the 2030 European Championships and provide facilities for the annual Van Damme Memorial meeting.
