In Brussels, the Flemish Catholic primary education network has launched the new school year with a focus on teaching quality and equal opportunity. More than 900 teachers gathered at the Koekelberg Basilica to mark the occasion. The network currently serves 16,500 students, part of a larger group of 35,000 children in the Flemish-language primary system in Brussels.

Concurrently, educational priorities for the year include a series of measures to strengthen core competencies. Minister Valérie Glatigny announced ten specific measures, including the introduction of the CLÉ Test (Calculate, Read, Write) for 4th-grade primary students in late September to identify learning difficulties early.

To support these academic standards, 25 million euros will be invested in personalized student support, providing the equivalent of 460 additional full-time staff members for primary and early secondary levels. Additionally, success thresholds for major exams, including the CEB, CE1D, and CESS, are set to increase to 60% by June 2027.
