Brussels Flower Carpet to celebrate Belgium-Japan relations in 2026
The Brussels Flower Carpet, a biennial tradition held on the Grand-Place, is preparing for its 2026 edition. The event features a massive floral tapestry spanning 70 meters by 24 meters, composed of nearly one million begonias, dahlias, and other natural elements.
The 2026 installation will commemorate 160 years of diplomatic friendship between Belgium and Japan. The design, led by contemporary artist Hiro Sugiyama, will feature a ‘Neo Hokusai’ interpretation of Katsushika Hokusai’s iconic woodblock print, ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’. This theme aims to blend traditional motifs with modern artistic energy.
