Brussels government debates budget and social housing funds

The Brussels regional government is addressing key budgetary and policy priorities following a recent coalition agreement. The CD&V party has expressed support for the current policy direction, emphasizing five priorities: maintaining healthy finances, supporting the middle class and families, safeguarding core regional investments, increasing employment, and ensuring efficient cost-saving measures.

A significant point of contention remains the planned 131 million euro disbursement to the Brussels Regional Housing Company (BGHM). While the 2026 budget includes these credits, political tension persists between the MR and PS parties regarding the timing and conditions of the payment. The BGHM requires these funds to settle invoices for completed social housing projects. Although the initial 2026 budget has been approved, the execution of these funds remains a subject of debate within the governing coalition.
