Brussels police officer dies during intervention in Jette

A police officer from the Brussels-Capital/Ixelles zone died during an intervention in Jette during the night of Monday to Tuesday. The officer was a member of the Anti-Aggression Brigade (BAA).

Interior and Security Minister Bernard Quintin expressed that he was ‘deeply upset’ by the death and stated that those responsible must face the full rigor of the law. Defense Minister Theo Francken also offered condolences, noting the human element behind the uniform. The public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
