Brussels police search for suspect in fatal attack on Guinean woman

Fatoumata Béavogui, a Guinean woman in her 40s, was found murdered in her home in the Saint-Gilles district of Brussels. The victim was discovered on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, in an apartment located on the parvis de Saint-Gilles. The discovery was made after school staff alerted authorities when the victim failed to pick up her 9-year-old daughter at the end of the school day.

Béavogui lived with her two daughters, aged 3 and 9, in an authorized squat managed by the association RespubliK. Authorities have identified the victim's former partner, also a Guinean national residing irregularly in Belgium, as the primary suspect. The suspect, who reportedly dropped the children off at school on the morning of the crime, is currently at large and is being actively sought by police. He is noted to have a history of alleged domestic violence.

The Brussels Prosecutor's Office and federal police experts are conducting an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the killing. Local authorities in Saint-Gilles have implemented psychosocial support for the two children, their classmates, and the school's teaching staff.
