Brussels shootings kill two people, including a police officer

Two separate fatal shootings occurred in Brussels during the night of October 12-13, resulting in two deaths. One victim was a 41-year-old special intervention police officer named Nordine, who was shot in the head in the Jette municipality. The incident occurred while he was attempting to intercept a vehicle that had been stolen during an armed robbery in Tubize.

Authorities recovered drugs and three firearms from the stolen vehicle, leading investigators to believe the incident is linked to drug trafficking. One suspect has been arrested in connection with the officer's death. The case is being treated as murder with aggravating circumstances, which carries the possibility of life imprisonment.

A second shooting took place in the Ixelles municipality, near the European Parliament, where one man was killed. At this stage, investigators have not established a connection between the two incidents.
