Dorsten recognized as hiking station in North Rhine-Westphalia

The city of Dorsten has been designated as a 'Wanderbahnhof' (hiking station), becoming the 13th location in North Rhine-Westphalia to receive this distinction. The award aims to promote eco-friendly tourism by encouraging travelers to use public transport instead of cars for outdoor excursions.

To qualify, stations are evaluated by a jury from the Ministry of Transport and the Marketing NRW competence center. Criteria include mobility offerings, transport connections, location, and quality of stay, as well as accessibility, information boards, and service amenities such as gastronomy. Dorsten is situated on the southern edge of the Hohe Mark Nature Park.

NRW Transport Minister Oliver Krischer is expected to present the honorary plaque to Mayor Tobias Stockhoff. Other recognized hiking stations in the region include Detmold, Emsdetten, and Winterberg.
