BRVM stock indices face widespread decline
The Bourse Régionale des Valeurs Mobilières (BRVM) has experienced a significant and widespread downturn across its major indices during the week of September 21, 2026. The BRVM Composite index saw a sharp decline, falling to 516.29 points on Wednesday, September 23, representing a 3.66% drop from the previous day.
Sectoral indices also faced broad losses, with the Discretionary Consumption index dropping 5.37%, Financial Services falling 5.18%, and Energy declining 4.34%. The total equity market capitalization decreased by approximately 756.1 billion FCFA, settling at 19.9 trillion FCFA.
Individual stock performance was highly volatile. Notable declines included CFAO Côte d’Ivoire, Coris Bank International Burkina Faso, and Loterie Nationale du Bénin, all of which saw drops of approximately 7.50%. Conversely, Filtisac Côte d’Ivoire and NEI CEDA Côte d’Ivoire were among the few gainers, rising by over 4.5%. Analysts suggest that profit-taking following previous months of growth may be a contributing factor to the market's retreat.
