Bryan Kohberger hearings canceled amid plea withdrawal efforts
Three upcoming court hearings involving Bryan Kohberger have been vacated, according to legal representatives. Kohberger, who pleaded guilty to the 2022 stabbings of four University of Idaho students in exchange for avoiding the death penalty, is currently attempting to withdraw that plea.
His defense team argues that Kohberger was misled into pleading guilty and received ineffective counsel. A primary focus of the canceled proceedings was a motion by Kohberger’s attorney, Greg Rauch, seeking to remove Judge Steven Hippler from the case due to concerns regarding potential bias.
Jason Goldman, an attorney representing Kohberger’s family, stated that the cancellation of these hearings “simply marks the start of a longer post-conviction relief process.” An amended scheduling order from the court is expected to clarify the new deadlines and the reasons for the sudden changes to the court calendar.
