Bryan Kohberger to return to court October 15 to challenge guilty plea

Bryan Kohberger, convicted of the murders of four University of Idaho students, is scheduled for a court hearing on October 15. The hearing concerns his motion to remove Judge Steven Hippler from his case as part of a broader effort to seek post-conviction relief and undo his guilty plea.

In a handwritten petition filed in July, Kohberger alleged that his legal representation was ineffective and that his guilty plea was not entered knowingly or voluntarily. He claimed the plea was induced by unkept promises and influenced by threats from his former legal counsel. Kohberger previously pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree murder and burglary in exchange for avoiding the death penalty, receiving four consecutive life sentences without parole.

Kohberger’s new legal team, which includes New York attorney Jason Goldman and Moscow-based attorney Greg Rauch, intends to file an amended petition by November 13. Goldman stated that the priority is to scrutinize the constitutional issues surrounding the plea.
