Bryan Oviedo announces retirement from professional football

Costa Rican footballer Bryan Oviedo has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 36. The left-back shared the news via a video on Instagram, reflecting on a career that began as a childhood dream in San Isidro de Peñas Blancas.

Oviedo's professional career included significant stints in Europe, playing in the English Premier League for Everton and in the Championship with Sunderland, as well as competing in Denmark and Norway. Domestically, he played for Costa Rican clubs Saprissa, Alajuelense, and San Carlos.

A key figure for the Costa Rica national team, Oviedo represented his country in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He was also part of the historic generation that achieved a fourth-place finish at the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
