Suaza, Colombia: Six dead in violent extortion confrontation

Six people died in the rural area of Suaza, Huila, following a violent confrontation involving suspected members of an illegal armed group. The incident occurred in the La Palma district on October 26.

Preliminary reports from the National Police and military sources indicate that individuals identifying themselves as members of a FARC dissident group, specifically the Rodrigo Cadete structure, arrived in the area to demand extortion payments from local residents. The violence escalated after a community member was reportedly killed during the encounter.

In response, local residents reacted against the armed group, resulting in the deaths of five suspected illegal combatants, including two women and three men. A vehicle used by the group was also incinerated. Authorities, including the Army, Police, and the Prosecutor General's Investigative Body (CTI), have been deployed to the scene to collect evidence and identify all victims.
