Bryce Dessner debuts new concerto with Sydney Symphony Orchestra

Composer and musician Bryce Dessner, known for his work with the indie band The National, is performing his new cello concerto, ‘Trembling Earth’, with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Co-commissioned by the orchestra, the piece was written specifically for soloist Anastasia Kobekina.

The concerto, which has previously been performed in Dublin, Berlin, and Prague, is making its Australian debut this weekend. Dessner noted that the title of the work is inspired by a painting of an oak forest by Norwegian expressionist Edvard Munch. He described the composition as a reflection on the natural world and human folly.
