Bryce Harper denounces FanDuel for unauthorized use of his Cameo video
Bryce Harper, star outfielder for the Philadelphia Phillies, recorded a short personalized video through the Cameo platform for Terry Thompson, a VIP customer of sports‑betting platform FanDuel. Thompson had wagered about $18.5 million with the sportsbook, lost nearly $2 million, faced foreclosure on his home and is now undergoing psychiatric treatment. He has sued FanDuel and DraftKings, accusing their VIP programs of fueling his gambling addiction.
Harper says he had no knowledge that FanDuel would repurpose the video for commercial promotion. He told reporters, "I did not know FanDuel would do this, I did not consent to it, and FanDuel had no right to do it." Harper asserts he has no affiliation with the betting company and that the video was intended only as a paid fan interaction, not as advertising for gambling services.
