Bryson DeChambeau discusses childhood abandonment and social isolation
LIV Golf player Bryson DeChambeau has opened up about childhood abandonment issues and a persistent fear of social rejection. Speaking on the Figuring Out with Raj Shamani podcast, DeChambeau explained that his insecurities stem from early experiences where competitors and community members accused him of cheating after he performed well in junior tournaments.
DeChambeau noted that being perceived as different or unique led to a fear that people would walk away from him. He stated that he often felt unaccepted by the golf ecosystem and that even friends occasionally distanced themselves due to his personality and unconventional way of thinking.
These comments follow recent remarks by Brooks Koepka on the Dan on Golf show. Addressing a situation involving Rory McIlroy during the 2025 Masters, Koepka defended McIlroy’s decision not to engage with DeChambeau, suggesting that DeChambeau “lives in his own world” and that many people avoid talking to him.
