LIV Golf seeks new investment amid financial uncertainty
LIV Golf faces significant financial uncertainty following the withdrawal of support from the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF). The league has already seen the cancellation of its planned team championship in Michigan, with the 2026 season now set to conclude in Indianapolis. This transition has resulted in reduced prize purses for both individual and team championships.
CEO Scott O’Neil has stated that the league is working under a “very compressed timeline” to finalize a deal with a new lead investor to fund operations through 2030. While the identity of the investor remains officially unnamed, reports suggest BC Partners may be involved. The completion of this transaction is reportedly conditional on securing the commitment of a critical mass of the league’s players.
Amidst this instability, several high-profile players are making contingency plans. Bryson DeChambeau has committed to competing in the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa, while other players like Tyrrell Hatton and Adrian Meronk have secured spots in the DP World Tour’s Husqvarna British Masters. O’Neil has emphasized a desire for the league to “complete, not compete,” aiming for a sustainable role within professional golf.
