Southern California wildfires ease as Santa Ana winds subside
Wildfires across Southern California are seeing increased containment as the powerful Santa Ana winds that fueled them have weakened. Several major blazes, including the Norte Fire in San Clemente and the Bryson Fire in Malibu, have seen significant progress.
The Norte Fire, which burned approximately 570 acres and forced the evacuation of 16,000 people, reached 25% containment. The blaze damaged or destroyed at least six homes in the San Juan Capistrano area. Most evacuation orders related to this fire have been lifted, though some residents remain under restrictions.
The Bryson Fire near Malibu burned 146 acres. Containment for this blaze surged to 61% before reaching 83% as conditions improved. All evacuation orders for the Bryson Fire were lifted by late Saturday, and officials reported no structural damage or major injuries.
While the immediate fire threat is subsiding, meteorologists warn of new risks. An incoming storm system is expected to bring widespread rain and potential thunderstorms to the region mid-week. Authorities have cautioned that heavy rainfall could trigger mudslides and debris flows in areas recently scarred by the fires.
