Bős hydroelectric power plant modernization contract signed for 465 million euros

A contract has been signed for the modernization of the Bős hydroelectric power plant in Slovakia. The project will be executed by a consortium consisting of the Austrian company Andritz Hydro and the Slovak engineering firm VUJE.

The winning bid exceeds 465 million euros, a figure reduced from an initial estimate of nearly 500 million euros through negotiations. The cost of the project increased from previous estimates of 370 million euros due to inflationary pressures. The reconstruction process is expected to last approximately ten years.

The modernization is necessary because the plant's eight turbines have exceeded their designed lifespan of 75,000 operating hours, with current usage ranging between 95,000 and 130,000 hours. Andritz Hydro will supply and manufacture the replacement turbines, while VUJE will manage investments related to electrical networks and equipment.
