BSNL expands 4G services and announces major network investment

State-run telecom provider BSNL is significantly expanding its network coverage across India. In Odisha, the company has installed 1,741 new 4G mobile towers under a Digital Bharat Nidhi-funded project, providing services to 2,487 remote villages. Officials aim to cover an additional 865 villages by March 2027 and extend high-speed internet to schools and healthcare facilities through the BharatNet project.

In Andhra Pradesh, BSNL has installed 1,350 4G towers, bringing voice and data services to nearly 2,500 previously unconnected villages.

On a national scale, BSNL plans a 77,000 crore rupee investment over the next five years to expand network capacity. This initiative aims to achieve 98 percent nationwide coverage, including the establishment of 200,000 new 4G sites and the introduction of 5G services in strategic areas. The investment is intended to help the company reach profitability by the 2028-29 fiscal year.
