BTA Baltic Insurance Company pays 3.4 million euros for windshield claims
BTA Baltic Insurance Company has paid out 3.4 million euros in KASKO insurance claims for damaged vehicle windshields over the past three years. Windshield damage claims account for approximately 25% of all reported vehicle damage cases.
Data indicates that 91% of damaged windshields require a complete replacement. The highest individual payouts were recorded for bus windshields, with costs reaching up to 7,300 euros.
Ivo Danče, Director of the Claims Department at BTA, warns that even small point-like cracks are dangerous as they can compromise structural protection and impact safety during accidents. Most damage is caused by stone impacts, particularly on gravel roads or construction zones where stones are kicked up by vehicle tires. Other causes include collisions with birds or wildlife, falling ice, or debris from buildings. To mitigate risks, drivers are advised to reduce speed and maintain greater distances from other vehicles, especially heavy trucks, in areas with poor road surfaces.
