Bétera celebrates August festivals with tribute to local women

The municipality of Bétera celebrated its August festivals on August 15, 2026, featuring the traditional ‘La Rodà de les Alfàbegues’. This year’s celebration included an offering to the Virgin of the Assumption, characterized by 16 massive Alfàbegue plants, over 11 tons of confetti, and a monumental ‘Cordà’ involving gunpowder and fire.

As part of the ‘Va de Dones’ campaign, the local government introduced a historic change by naming the 16 Alfàbegues after women. This initiative honors the 2026 ‘Obreras’—Mireia García Ricart, Daniela Ferriol Fuentes, Nathalie Martínez, and Gely Garañana—as well as women significant to the town’s history and culture. Mayor Elia Verdevío stated that the campaign aims to highlight the essential role women play in the municipality’s social, cultural, and historical development.

The procession saw the plants accompanied by the ‘Obreras Solteras’ under traditional hand-embroidered umbrellas. The largest specimens were dedicated to the Inmaculada Concepción and the Asunción, while others honored the families of the current festival protagonists.
