BUAP celebrates first Data Science Research Master's graduate

José de Jesús Hernández Higuera has become the first graduate of the Master's in Data Science Research at the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP), through the Faculty of Physical-Mathematical Sciences.

Under the guidance of researcher Dr. Jorge Velázquez Castro, Hernández Higuera presented a thesis titled ‘Integration of machine learning for the search of epidemiological control strategies’. The research utilized a combination of Reinforcement Learning and Deep Learning to develop simulations of epidemiological environments based on the SIR mathematical model.

The study applied Q-learning algorithms, inspired by bot training in video games, to identify control strategies, while artificial neural networks were used to improve algorithmic efficiency.
