BUAP hosts international congress on veterinary microbiology and emerging diseases
The Second International Congress of Veterinary Microbiology has commenced at the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP), organized by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics. The event serves as an academic forum to discuss research on bacteria, viruses, and fungi, focusing on sanitary challenges such as antimicrobial resistance and innovative diagnostic methods.
During the congress, BUAP Rector Lilia Cedillo Ramírez highlighted the growing public health challenge posed by emerging bacteria, specifically Chlamydia, Bartonella, and Rickettsia. These infections are primarily transmitted to domestic animals through vectors like fleas and ticks. Symptoms can include skin spots, bruising, conjunctivitis, digestive issues, weight loss, neurological problems, and cardiac complications.
The congress program covers infectious diseases in both domestic and wild animals, zoonoses, biotechnology, and vaccinology. Experts emphasized the importance of veterinary surveillance and preventive measures, such as regular veterinary check-ups, parasite prevention, vaccination, and improved hygiene to mitigate risks in pets and birds.
