BUAP implements AI training program for university faculty

The Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) has completed its Diploma in Artificial Intelligence and Teaching Transformation. The 120-hour program, led by the Agency of Artificial Intelligence and Algorithmic Ethics, aims to develop a new faculty profile known as ‘Docente GuIA’. This profile integrates technical understanding with pedagogical transformation, critical thinking, and ethical responsibility.

The university aims to train 1,000 ‘Docente GuIA’ instructors within one year. The training focuses on helping professors redesign classroom activities and adapt evaluation strategies to account for student use of AI. Key objectives include teaching students when to utilize AI, when to question its outputs, and when to avoid its use entirely.

Initial assessments indicate significant progress among participating faculty. Proficiency in designing activities involving AI rose from 50% to 91.7%, while the ability to establish criteria for evaluating AI-assisted work increased from 33.4% to 83.4%. Additionally, 100% of participating teachers reported being able to guide students in the critical analysis of AI-generated content.
