BUAP researcher Addí Rhode Navarro Cruz receives international honors

Addí Rhode Navarro Cruz, a researcher from the Faculty of Chemical Sciences at the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP), has received multiple international honors in Buenos Aires. The International Organization for Inclusion and Educational Quality (OIICE) awarded her the 2026 Educational Excellence Award, the Golden Magisterial Order, and the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa.

Her research focuses on the development of functional foods, including the creation of flours from organic waste such as banana, orange, and lemon peels, as well as carrot pulp. Her work also includes reformulating traditional foods like tamales to reduce caloric content, implementing home-based fruit and vegetable preservation techniques, and diagnosing malnutrition risks in older adults.

In addition to her academic role in the Department of Biochemistry and Food, Navarro Cruz has engaged in scientific outreach. For four years, she contributed to the monthly magazine Nutri-Bienestar, providing accessible nutritional information, infographics, and healthy recipes to the residents of Atlixco.
