Puebla public universities see 476% increase in new enrollment

Public universities in Puebla, Mexico, are seeing a historic increase in new student enrollment. According to Manuel Viveros Narciso, Secretary of Public Education, the enrollment for new entries is projected to grow by 476 percent, rising from 610 spots in the 2024-2025 cycle to 3,515 spots for the 2026-2027 cycle.

This expansion is part of a decentralization and space-widening policy supported by Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier and President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. A significant portion of this growth is occurring at the Universidad de la Salud del Estado de Puebla (USEP), which will offer 2,290 new spots for programs including Medical Surgeon, Nursing, and Obstetrics across its central, southern, and regional campuses.

Additionally, the Universidad del Deporte del Estado de Puebla (UDEP) is supporting students with 519 spots and 120 beds to assist those from distant municipalities. At the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP), approximately 5,000 new students have begun their studies at the CU2 campus for the Fall 2026 term.
