Buaysiacobe students protest lack of water and cooling

In the community of Buaysiacobe, located in the Etchojoa municipality of Sonora, students at the Universidad para el Bienestar Benito Juárez García have staged protests over inadequate campus infrastructure. Demonstrators blocked the local main road to demand essential services, including air conditioning, potable water, and proper restroom facilities.

The protests come amid extreme temperatures in the Mayo Valley region, where recent highs have exceeded 40 degrees Celsius. Students reported that the lack of cooling systems has led to fainting in classrooms, and they noted that while water is available, it is too warm for safe consumption.

Separately, the Sonora Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) has been conducting peace-building initiatives at the 13 de Septiembre indigenous primary school in the same community. These sessions, part of the Permanent Peace Day strategy, aim to teach children about conflict resolution, sexual abuse prevention, and the correct use of emergency services.
