Bubble Worker Syndrome: The impact of constant work connectivity
Health specialists are warning about ‘Bubble Worker Syndrome,’ a phenomenon where the boundaries between professional and personal life become blurred. This occurs when employees feel a constant need to remain connected to work tasks, such as compulsively checking corporate emails or responding to messages during leisure time, family meals, or vacations.
Experts from Cigna Healthcare note that this constant connectivity prevents the brain from fully resting, which diminishes the effectiveness of downtime. Amira Bueno, Human Resources Director at Cigna Healthcare Spain, points out that these behaviors are often not perceived as a problem by the workers themselves. Instead, being constantly available is frequently rewarded or misinterpreted as a sign of high commitment and dedication within corporate environments.
