Bublava opens first automated COOP store in Karlovy Vary Region
The village of Bublava in the Karlovy Vary Region has opened the first automated COOP grocery store in the area. This new concept allows residents and tourists to shop 24/7, even when staff are not present.
To avoid closing the store due to high operating costs and low local purchasing power, the Západočeské konzumní družstvo Sušice implemented a hybrid model. The store combines traditional staffed hours with an automated mode. During unmanned hours, customers enter using a QR code generated via the DoKapsy mobile application from ČSOB, which also verifies identity to ensure security and age verification for alcohol sales.
Foreign tourists can also access the store by scanning their passports or ID cards into the application. The local municipality supports the initiative through symbolic rent and subsidies to ensure the village maintains essential services.
